This book contains topics on changing
bodies, growing up, abortion, adoption, sex and sexual health. It discusses the
biology behind puberty and the changes that come with it making it easier for
kids to understand. There is also information about what masturbation is, different
sexualities, different body shapes and how it is okay to be different. This
book also depicts what families can look like with different sets of parents as wells as being a single parent. The topic of abortion and adoption
are also discussed. With the help of Bird and Bee making it a bit more relaxing
to read you can get through the topics.
I can see why some people do not recommend
this book for children but at the same time I find beneficial because there are
kids who would rather read about it instead of having an adult give the “talk.”
I personally did not find this book too graphic for kids. The Bird and the Bee illustrations make it a bit more
relaxing to read with their funny conversations.
